HK

For the first time in like 365 days, I am happy to have been brought up in HK. While the education is nothing but bad, it still showers us with the ability to read and write two extremely different languages, and therefore, we have the rare ability to appreciate two extremely different cultures without any serious "filtration". So, I am going to make good use of this not-so-common ability..

=====

Excerpt from an e-mail from welcome family:
"I just finished a very good (but not a happy book) called "A Blade of Grass" by Lewis DeSoto. He is a Canadian author who grew up in South Africa. The story takes place in South Africa and it's about a black and a white woman who become friends; I could hardly put it down. Another good book I read this fall was called "Blindness" by a Portuguese author named Jose Saramago. It was a bit strange -- about an epidemic wherein everyone goes blind."

=====

So I search for this Jose Saramago.. oh, another Nobel winner.. also making fun with magic realism?? You can see that ppl are so unpleased with the current world that they are always thinking about some unreal things.. behind every good novel, there are always some real stories, real struggles.. which is why I am so into it these days..

Adding Frank McCourt's Teacher Man to the previous list.. Such a guy, I would describe as, witty..
