Experience allows you to develop some phenomenology, but mathematics show you why. When do I have time? It's no fun to be forced to learn from mistakes, when there're probably wiser ways. No one really loves making mistakes, I suppose, but I'm making tons of them..
Luckily, the phenomenological rules are finally working.. but why?? In the ideal situations, I should be able to "experiment" with the magnetic unit cell, and draw the conclusions of group theory myself.. but as the so-called "education" has turned into a "business", there's simply no time to do it..
