Have actually bought that for 8 months already.. Hope it is useful..
Let me think about what new words I've learnt..
abracadabra, bootlegger, bugbear, recalcitrant, inchoate, prevaricate,
bowdlerize, nonplus, quisling, chauvinism, idolatrous,
quintessence (quinta essentia, the fifth essence, which is the
mysterious ether, besides air, fire, earth, water), bluestocking
Using a vocabulary builder together with Webster-Merriam's Dictionary and Thesaurus (or any other thesaurus) should be the ideal way to increase one's stockpile of words.. it should be more efficient than glancing through the dictionary or any dictionary-like wordlist..
The vocabulary builder I am using divides the word list into 4 main types:
1. Words that are built using prefixes and suffixes
2. Words that are built from their roots
3. Words that have special histories
4. Words borrowed from other languages
I particularly love reading about 3 and 4.. it's full of fun.. Hope I can finish that..
And I guess I have to be particularly careful about when the words came into usage..
$57 for 400 pages.. quite economic..

Can there be a similar vocabulary builder in Chinese??
