Phaedo

像 Socrates 這樣說,好像說 "思想者" 該學習的,就是如何去面對死亡,或者更清楚一點,"如何去死",從而得到一種 separation from the body,進入一個 philosopher 所嚮往的 "清靜地"。

不過也許再 rephrase 一下,就變成,學會如何忘記 body 給一個人的 pain。如何忘記自身的存在,用另一種更令人嚮往的方式 "活" 下去。如果真正的死了,沒甚麼好啊!Plato 筆下的 Socrates 真是個能言善辯的傻瓜。

我想起 Einstein 也教人忘我,而 "相約星期二" 的那位則叫人 "learn to die"。其實也一樣。

我從來就覺得,有宗教的人是幸福的,儘管我不相信自己有朝一日忽然會覺得 god exists。而我的宗教呢?可以說是人道主義嗎?雖然從不喜歡這些主義不主義的詞匯,不過有時也避免不了。

religious is not necessarily faith oriented. Like early Buddhism, it only focus on how to withdraw from the sufferings and the method is not superstitious. It is a mind training program. Only the later Buddhists transform Buddhism to be more "religious". I think Confucianism is quite philosophical oriented too, although the "Tian" concept is vague.
