Current reading list

Resumed: The Count of Monte Cristo
Towards the end: Dracula (50 pages left)
To read list:
1. Mark Twain -- Tom Sawyer, Huck Finn (revisited)
2. Defoe -- Robinson Crusoe
3. D. H. Lawrence -- Lady Chatterly's Lover
4. Hugo -- The Hunchback of Notre Dame

=====

"Dracula" didn't end in the exciting way like in the beginning, but it is still a good one. Its author is not a first-class one, as he tends to repeat himself too much. The characters are too noble and there is only one single bad character in the book, which makes the story too plain for 300 pages. (but I still devoured it greedily, so why? I know not..)

I guess the focal point of the whole story is the Catholic way of love and courage. It can bring readers joy and spirits, but not much more. I do appreciate its exceedingly high spirits, even though it is a bit over-done.

As for "The Count of Monte Cristo", it is enjoyable because it is like drama. The characters aren't real at all. Their actions are totally unpredictable, and this is what makes this one so extraordinary. There are surprises all the way.

So here I start the part on the Count's revenge.
